The Medical School Interview Video Course 2

What is the Best Way to Prepare For
Your Medical School Interviews?

The medical school interview is the final stage you have to complete to get into medical school. When I say final, I truly mean final: the odds are better than 2-1 you’ll get in — if you ace the interview.

No more applications, no more essays, no more paperwork: The interview is IT!

So if you’ve been invited to an interview, or if you’re hoping to get invitations this application cycle, congratulate yourself because you’re really close to beating the game!

The Medical School Interview is The “Final Hurdle” You Will Face

In a way, the medical school interview is like the “final boss” in a video game, or a novel. Think Bowser in the Mario games, or Venom in Spiderman.

And if you’ve played those games, you know that the final stage is such a stressful moment and a big challenge. When you realize how far you have come, and that only one more step can make or break the whole game for you, the stakes feel super high and you might get nervous.

The final boss in a video game isn’t really so tough if you know his vulnerabilities — the “trick” you need to know to easily finish the final stage, the chink in the boss’ armor that will let you finish him off.

But unlike video games, you only have one shot at your medical school interview. You can’t save your game and reload if you mess up, so you need to learn all of the tricks before you sit down in front of the interviewers.

You Will Encounter Different Interview
Styles at Different Medical Schools

It’s tough to know all of the tricks you’ll need to defeat the interview because each medical school is subtly different: Different questions, different format, and different standards of etiquette.

Some medical schools run notoriously difficult interviews, and others are a little more relaxed. Most will try to catch you off guard with awkward, contentious questions you might not be too comfortable answering, and others just want you to feel at home.

And while you’re preparing for the interview, minor distractions about the minute details are going distract you: “What should I wear? When should I show up? Can I say “this” and not “that,” especially if the interviewer says “such and such?”

Anticipating what is to come is an excellent strategy, and it’s good to get the little details out of the say so you can prepare for the big, important, meaty questions that the outcome of your interview depends on.

The Top Questions Premeds Have About Interviews

  • What are the interview questions I’m most likely going to have to answer?
  • How do I respond to the common questions without sounding fake or too rehearsed?
  • What should I do when I get asked a question that makes me uncomfortable?
  • Is there anything I can't talk about?
  • How are medical school interviews different? How's the interview at *such and such* medical school?
  • What should I wear? And how do I figure out travel?
  • Do I need to write a thank you note after each interview? How do I do that?

Warning! Application Burnout & Overconfidence Can Harm Your Interviews

I need to warn you about two things that I see in a lot of premeds who reach this stage of the admissions game: Burnout, and over-confidence.

Now that you’ve tackled your undergraduate prerequisites, the primary application, the personal statement and the secondary application, you might be thinking: “Enough! Let’s just get this over with already!” I call that the burned out premed — overwhelmed by the whole process and daunted by yet another step.

Or, you might think: “I’ve done all of these super hard things to get to where I am now, how is the interview going to be any different? I got this.” I call that the over-confident premed.

Poor Preparation, Poor Interview

Whether you’re burned out or over-confident, the result is usually the same — Feeling wiped out or cocky, you walk into the interview without much preparation, hoping that “winging it” will impress the interviewing committee, even though you don’t know what to expect.

You get blind-sighted by the questions, you forget the things you said in your primary application, and your answers are a jumbled stammering mess of inconsistent statements.

“Proper Prior Preparation Prevents Piss-Poor Performance”

had a college professor who used this saying incessantly in our Biology course and our class used to groan quietly when he used this saying. But it stuck with me throughout my professional life, and those words run through my head whenever I listen to a premed stress about the interview. The allure of alliteration!

The interview is only a roadblock if you don’t prepare in advance. You must take the time to educate yourself about what’s to come.

I’ve Helped Thousands of Premeds Ace The Interview

don osborne

I’ve worked with thousands of premeds as a medical school admissions coach and consultant since 1994. The medical school interview is no mystery to me!

I’ve gone through the med school interview with my premed clients thousands of times. I know all the twists and turns and potholes you’ll encounter in the interview, and I’ve been a calm and confident guide to worried premeds for years.

Introducing My Online Course:
“The Medical School Interview Video Course”

I’ve helped thousands of premeds one-on-one with their interviews — by sharing the common questions and how to respond tothem, school-specific strategies, what to do, and what to say.

I was communicating my huge strategy guide only to individual premeds — a tactic I’ve now realized is not the most efficient way to communicate information! I spent so many hours saying the same thing over-and-over, and I charged a lot of money for it! (My one-on-one interview service wen for $1000 back in the day!)

To save myself a whole lot of one-on-one time, and to save you a bunch of money, I documented and recorded everything I know about the interview, and packaged it all into an online course available to all of you.

It’s called the Medical School Interview Course, and it’s the most complete online interview workshop out there.

Course Review – Doug Doehrman, MD From StudyBypass.com

“I’ve looked through his course content personally and can tell you that I really love the advice he gives.

Don’s got many years of admissions experience; he has had several medical school admissions committee members on his staff, including one dean of admissions of a major Chicago medical school, and he’s spoken to groups of premed advisers about his experiences as an adviser. He stands by his courses, so if you have any problems, be sure you reach out to him. He’s a good guy and will take care of you.”

Premeds Who Have Taken The Course Say...

I just want to let you know that my interview at Einstein went really well! My interviewer and I had a lot in common and it felt very comfortable and conversational.

Thank you so much for all your help – your interview prep course was spot on and really prepared me for what was asked. The question “is there anything in my application/answers that concerns you…” was a home run, she told me she had no concerns and thought I’d be a great fit for the school.

Great way to end! Thanks so much again. Take care!

"SL"
Premed

I must admit I was one of many pre-meds chanting yet another variation of the bandwagon slogan: “I want to become a doctor because I want to help people.”

Generic or not, my desire to help others formed the very core of my reasons for pursuing a career in medicine, and I struggled to express my true feelings with a refreshing voice. INQUARTA offered a very effective approach that enabled me to guide listeners and readers with my life stories. In all successful interviews, I never had to explicitly explain why I wanted to become a doctor; I only had to tell them different stories about my life.

INQUARTA and the Interview Course undoubtedly helped me to find a truly unique voice that was engaging, relevant and most importantly, my own. I highly recommend INQUARTA as it helped to transform my average repertoire of numbers and experiences into a highly competitive and memorable package. Thanks again!
