This is part of an ongoing series on some of the most popular colleges for pre-meds and med students. You are welcome to add your comments and suggestions! -Don Osborne
If you are a pre-med attending the University of California in San Diego, or one living in the San Diego area, your prospects for a great medical school look pretty good. You’re probably thinking of attending the UC San Diego Medical School. There’s plenty of seaside communities for you to check out and visit and you’ll be right there in the middle of it all. Here are the stats:
- Number of applicants — 6,693
- Number of matriculants — 125
- In-state and out-of-state matriculants — 84% / 16%
- Average GPA of students — 3.85
- Average MCAT score — 33
These stats are rough and the acceptance rate is pretty low, but you can get there with the proper materials. With San Diego, there’s not much that needs to be said to convince you — every year students scramble to get a spot, and I can’t blame them. The beaches are lovely and there is always something going on be it a farmer’s market or a free music show. San Diego is known for its beautiful weather and if you manage to make it here, you really got something going for you.
