Signing up for Amazon student gives you a lot of benefits. The free two-day shipping really helps for textbook rentals and anything else you might need for school. Luckily, this feature is included in the free six months that you get when you sign up for Amazon Student which will be very useful once your semester starts.
Is it worth it? You can find out on my Amazon Student review article here and here. Meantime, here’s step by step on how to sign up and get the best deals with Amazon Student.
To better understand what the benefits are of having Amazon student, there is a little comparison chart on their site. After six months, you can get these benefits and more for only about $50 a year, which is half the price of their full-featured program called Amazon Prime (Prime costs $100 a year).
This is a huge bargain, considering how much you will be saving on shipping and all the added extras that comes with Prime. Click on the “Get Started” button on this link and have your .edu email ready.
If you’ve never had an Amazon account before, you need to fill out a few things before you can start signing up for Amazon student. This includes making a password, typing in your email, and your name. If you already have a regular Amazon account, just type in your password.
Important note: You can have a variety of Amazon accounts at the same time, so take an extra second and make sure that you use the same email address and password as any previous Amazon accounts you have. That way you’ll always get access to your Amazon Student account.
Now you should be at the larger sign-up page. It is here that you need to type in your .edu email, academic year of graduation, grade, and expected major. You also need to fill in billing address and your payment details. Remember, after the six month period, you will be billed automatically for Amazon Prime ($50). If you don’t want this, you can opt out by going to Settings > Amazon Student Membership > Manage Prime Membership.
Confirm your .edu email by logging into it and clicking the confirmation link in the email Amazon sends you.
And there you have it! You are officially signed up for Amazon Student along with the benefits of free two-day shipping which alone is worth it for all the money you’ll save.
