Being a pre-med in Texas at the University of Texas, your best bet for medical school is the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. It’s affordable and in-state tuitions is loads less for Austin residents, although it is a bit far (about a three hour drive, but completely worth it). Here are some stats to help you make your decision:
- Number of applicants — 4,035
- Number of matriculants — 230
- In-state and out-of-state matriculants — 96.5% / 3.5%
- Average GPA of students — 3.85
- Average MCAT score — 32
What’s so special about Galveston? Well, for starters it’s a coastal city so that means plenty of beaches and sun. As for a location, Galveston is ideal if you like to be out and about. With such beautiful weather, you’re going to want to constantly be outside. Although to get there, you’re going to need strong stats, especially your MCAT. Take a look here for more information on how to get the scores you need.
